A massive park that contains myriad amazing sights, the most famous of the natural features at Denali National Park and Preserve is Mount McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America. While most visitors won't want to make the arduous trek to the mountain, a great place to start any trip is at the Denali Visitor Center just inside the park. From there, drive up the road to Savage River, where car access is stopped and either hike around the area or take a shuttle bus ride even further into the amazing park for rare sights and spectacular vistas. This amazing, secluded national park is some 240 miles north of Anchorage and 125 miles south of Fairbanks, putting it far from almost every town in the state.

Hours of Operation:

Open year-round. Shuttle buses operate mid-May - mid-Sept.
